We are finishing up our measuring unit. Students have been using different non-standard measuring tools to measure and order objects. They had a lot of fun with this unit.
Wednesday was a fill in day for Mrs. Hanson’s class. First, we read the non fiction text Amazing Animals Polar Bears to learn about polar bears. Next, boys and girls used marshmallows to paint polar bears. Then we read aloud Jan Brett’s The Three Snow Bears. Our afternoon concluded with comparing and contrasting The Three Snow Bears and Goldilocks and The Three Bears.
On Tuesday we had some time to do some art. We started by painting a beautiful watercolor background. Next we sprinkled some salt on top in an attempt to give some texture. It worked great on some of the paintings, but not all. Then we drew polar bears and used three star cutting to cut them out. The final step was gluing the bears on the background. They came out beautiful!
In math we are learning about measuring. We are talking about things that are tall, short or long. We are comparing objects and ordering them from shortest to tallest or longest. Here is a fun measuring video the kids enjoy.
We measured and compared pencils and crayons ordering them from shortest to tallest.
